Today (7), Japan’s Atomic Energy Regulation Authority issued the acceptance certificate of the Fukushima First nuclear power plant nuclear contaminated water discharge facility to Tokyo Electric Power Company. This means that the Japanese government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company are fully prepared for the release of nuclear contaminated water into the sea. The Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government (hereinafter referred to as the “Environment and Ecology Bureau”) replied to GDToday and South + reporters that once Japan starts discharging nuclear-contaminated water, the SAR Government will immediately adopt strict import control measures, including banning the import of aquatic products from high-risk areas along the coast of Fukushima.
According to the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the protection of food safety and public health in Hong Kong is the primary consideration of the SAR Government, and the SAR Government will ensure that all food sold in Hong Kong is safe and fit for consumption. The inter-departmental task force set up by the SAR Government in response to Japan’s nuclear contaminated water discharge plan is reviewing the contents of the concluding report issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 4 July, and has sought more relevant information and scientific evidence on how to ensure the safety of discharge, so as to conduct further risk assessment on the discharge plan with a view to determining specific countermeasures. Includes the range of affected prefectures in Japan.
It is understood that after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in Japan in 2011, the SAR government immediately restricted certain food products from Fukushima and four other prefectures (Chiba, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi) from entering Hong Kong. At present, Hong Kong bans the import of all vegetables and fruits, milk, milk drinks and milk powder from Fukushima Prefecture. Food from the four prefectures near Fukushima (Chiba, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi) must be accompanied by a radiation certificate issued by the Japanese authorities and an exporter’s certificate before import. In addition, all frozen or frozen game, meat and poultry, poultry eggs, and live, frozen or frozen aquatic products from the above five prefectures must be accompanied by a radiation certificate issued by the Japanese authorities, otherwise they are prohibited from importation into Hong Kong.
According to the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, in 2022, Hong Kong’s food imports from Japan accounted for about 2% of Hong Kong’s total supply; Among them, all types of meat (except chilled beef), vegetables, fruits and dairy products imported from Japan account for less than 5% of the local food market; Aquatic products accounted for about 6.75% of local consumption.
The aquaculture bacterial diagnostics market refers to the market for the diagnosis of bacterial diseases in the aquaculture process. The main products in the aquaculture bacterial diagnostics market include molecular diagnostics, immunofluorescent antibody tests, polymerase chain reaction, etc.
The development of aquaculture bacterial diagnostics market has been affected by many factors such as water quality, climate, feed, etc. It is expected that the global aquaculture bacterial diagnostics market will maintain a high growth rate in the future, and the market size will continue to expand.
Aquaculture cage market refers to the cage market for aquaculture. Cage culture refers to the use of frames and nets combined into closed or semi-closed cages, fish, shrimp, crabs and other aquatic animals and plants placed in it, in order to achieve the purpose of increasing culture.
The development of aquaculture cage market is closely related to the development of aquaculture industry, with the continuous expansion and standardization of aquaculture industry, aquaculture cage market demand will continue to grow. The aquaculture industry also has the following markets:
Feed additives market: aquaculture industry has high requirements for feed quality and nutrient ratio, so it is necessary to use various feed additives to improve the nutritional value of feed, such as probiotics, enzyme preparations, vitamins and so on.
Aquaculture equipment market: aquaculture requires the use of various equipment, such as aerators, pumps, generators, etc., and the demand for these equipment is also increasing with the continuous development of the aquaculture industry.
Pharmaceutical market: The aquaculture process requires the use of various drugs, such as disinfectants, therapeutic drugs, etc., to prevent and treat diseases.
Seedling market: aquaculture needs to use a variety of seedlings, such as fish fry, shrimp fry, crab fry, etc. The quality and variety of seedlings have an important impact on the yield and quality of aquaculture.
In general, the aquaculture industry involves a very wide range of markets, and each market is expanding with the development of aquaculture industry.
Aquaculture support vessel market refers to the market for vessels used to support aquaculture operations in the aquaculture process. The main products in the aquaculture support vessel market include feed vessels, disinfection vessels, monitoring vessels, barges, etc.
The development of the aquaculture support boat market is closely related to the development of the aquaculture industry, and with the continuous expansion and standardization of the aquaculture industry, the market demand for aquaculture support boats will continue to grow.
